Buhweju Police Probe Murder of 35-Year-Old Woman

Police in Buhweju District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of Kyogabirwe Olivia, 35, a resident of Enkombe Trading Centre, Kiyanja Parish, Kyahenda Sub-County.

The crime is allegedly linked to Turinawe Kenneth, 24, a resident of Ruzinga, Kyahenda Sub-County.

According to preliminary findings, the deceased’s husband, Kabatungye Nicholas, returned home from gold mining on the morning of September 2, 2025, at around 7:00 a.m., and found his wife’s body lying on the floor of their house.

Reports suggest that the family had long-standing conflicts related to witchcraft, which may have contributed to the incident.

SP Tayebwa Apollo, Regional Police PRO for Greater Bushenyi, confirmed that officers promptly responded to the scene, managed evidence, and transferred the body to Nsiika Health Centre IV for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have since arrested one suspect to assist with investigations.

“We appeal to the general public to distance themselves from acts of lawlessness since they are prosecutable. Investigations are still ongoing, and we shall update the public on any further developments,” SP Tayebwa stated.
