Authorities to parade male health workers of Buwasa HC over Teenager’s defilement

The police in Sironko are searching for an unidentified health worker at Buwasa Health Center IV on allegations of defiling a 13 year old girl who was seeking treatment at the facility.

The victim, a 13-year-old pupil of Nakirungu Primary School in Busamaga Sub County had gone to receive treatment for headaches when she was abused by the health worker.

According to her grandmother, Betty Nambozo, a resident of Buwamanyala Village Buwamanyala parish Busamaga Sub County, the victim escorted her aunt to Buwasa health centre IV on Saturday for malaria treatment. However, the minor had also presented with symptoms of flu and she advised her to get treatment at the same health center.

Nambozo adds that the minor later complained that while at the facility, an unidentified health worker took her to a private room, where he defiled her. The minor explained that while in the private room, the health worker asked her to undress, lie on the examination bed, and defiled her. She explained that the health worker later threatened to kill her if she revealed what had happened in the private room to anybody.

Minati Namuwenge, who had gone with the teenager to the health center, says that she did not notice anything until Monday when the victim revealed what had happened to her and the grandmother. They immediately reported the matter to the Bugusege police station, and a medical examination which proved that the minor was defiled.

Moses Muduli, the LCIII chairperson of Busamaga Sub County condemned the incident, saying that the law must take its course such that others can take that as an example.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying they have commenced investigations to identify the errant health worker who was behind this act.
