Arua- Husband Assaults Wife to Death over Conjugal Rights

The police in Ayivu East Division, Arua City, are currently investigating the murder of Candiru Judith, a 23-year-old housewife, allegedly assaulted by her husband, Amandu James Surundu, aged 27. The couple resided in Obavu cell, Ombokolo Ward, Ayivu East Division, Arua City.

According to Josephine Angucia, the Public Relations Officer for the West Nile Police Region, the incident occurred during the night between March 1st and 2nd, 2024, at their residence in the aforementioned village. The incident was brought to the attention of the police by a neighbor, shortly before Amandu voluntarily surrendered himself for investigation.

Reports suggest that the couple, who had been together for several years and shared three children, had been experiencing domestic problems, with Candiru accusing her husband of infidelity. Allegedly, this discord led to a confrontation on the night of the incident, during which Candiru purportedly refused any intimacy with her husband, further aggravating the situation.

The fight escalated, resulting in physical violence, with Amandu reportedly punching Candiru in the ribs, leading to her demise due to severe injuries sustained. Following the incident, Amandu surrendered himself to the Manibe police station and was subsequently arrested for further inquiries.

Angucia revealed that the authorities have initiated a murder investigation under Case Reference Number CRB 047/2024 at the Ayivu East Division Headquarters in Manibe. A team comprising detectives and scene of crime officers visited the location, gathering evidence and testimonies from witnesses and locals.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem and the result indicated that the deceased sustained broken ribs and internal injuries, which killed her.

The casefile has been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice and approval. The suspect, Amandu James, remains detained at Manibe police station. Upon approval, the suspect will be brought to court to face charges of murder.
