Police hunt for unidentified man over murder of 10-year-old child in Rukungiri

The police in Rukungiri are hunting for an unknown man suspected to have murdered 10-year-old Charity Nazifa a pupil at Centenary primary school and resident of Nyakabare cell/ parish Bwambara sub county Rukungiri district.

It’s alleged that on 1/11/2023 at around 18:00hrs, the deceased and his brother Isma Turyasingura went to fetch water at the well about 200m from their home.

ASP Maate Elly the PRO Kigezi Region says the children passed an unknown man. While fetching water, the said man came at the well and abducted Nazifa charity. This prompted her brother to run back home while making an alarm calling their mother.

The mother together with other women rushed to the well only to find the child missing. Several people gathered and searched in the bush around the well and later, her body was discovered lying in the water.

Police was alerted by the area chairperson one George Bambabwire and a case of murder was registered at Rukungiri police station. The crime scene has been visited, and the body retrieved and conveyed to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary for postmortem.

The hunt for the suspect is ongoing.
