High Court adjourns Francis Onebe murder case to July 2023

The High Court in Kampala has postponed the trial of senior accountant Francis Onebe and his security guard until July 10th, 2023 to allow the prosecution more time to present their witnesses. The duo is accused of the murder of Onebe’s wife, Immaculate Onebe Mary Aiso.

Onebe and Bonny Oriekot were arrested in September 2021 following allegations of murdering Asio in January of the same year. The lifeless body of Asio was discovered in a septic tank at their residence in Munyonyo, Makindye division.

To date, the prosecution has presented three witnesses, including the DNA analyst, the village secretary where Onebe resides, and the video analyst who examined the footage recorded in the vicinity on the day Asio went missing.

On Tuesday, additional witnesses were scheduled to testify, including the investigating officer. However, the proceedings were postponed due to Justice Michael Elubu’s prior official commitments.

As per the Court Clerk, the case is set to resume between July 10th and 12th, providing the prosecution with an opportunity to present their witnesses.

During the previous session on June 16th, Onebe’s defence attorneys disputed the validity of the video evidence presented in court, aiming to challenge the alleged involvement of their client in the murder of his wife.

The prosecution introduced two video recordings that purportedly showed the victim, Mary Asio, alive near Gaz Fuel Station.
