Unknown assailants shoot police officer dead in Kassanda
The police in Kassanda are hunting for three assailants who shot and killed a police officer on duty. The incident took place on Monday evening 19/06/2023 at 5:40 pm in Kyakitanga Village, Manyogaseka Sub-county, has left the community shaken.
The victim is CPL Olaya Joseph, Badge No. 52590, attached to Kiganda Police Station.
According to preliminary findings, three unidentified male assailants entered a mobile money agent shop/soda depot owned by Bonani Janvier Fils in Kalongo, Mubende District.
The armed robbers, wielding a firearm, stole various items of undisclosed value before getting away on a motorcycle.
Upon receiving this information, officers, led by the Officer in Charge of Kiganda Police Station, immediately initiated a pursuit of the suspects with the aim of apprehending them.
However, during the pursuit, the suspects shot CPL Oloya, who unfortunately succumbed to the injuries while being transported to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late CPL Olaya Joseph,” said SP Racheal Kawala the PRO Wamala.
Kawala noted that following the incident, a team of investigators, led by the District Police Commander visited the crime scene to gather evidence and statements from witnesses.
They have since recovered an abandoned red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, Reg No UDX 755C, believed to belong to the suspects. The suspects also took the deceased’s magazine but left his firearm behind.
“We want to assure the public that our task teams are fully committed and actively working to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in this incident,” Kawala added.
