Uganda, DR Congo seek to strengthen ties as PM Nabbanja meets delegation of Congolese MPs

Prime Minister Rt Hon Nabbanja Robinah has expressed Uganda’s commitment to solidify the relations between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Nabbanja made the remarks during a meeting held in Kampala on Tuesday evening, with a delegation of Members of Parliament from DR Congo who visited her office.

During the meeting, she assured the delegation and the people of the DRC that Uganda is dedicated to enhancing the bond between the two sister countries.

The discussion revolved around strategies and initiatives aimed at strengthening the existing ties and exploring opportunities for further collaboration.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija also addressed the delegation, emphasizing the importance of increasing trade volumes between Uganda and the DRC to foster economic development. Both countries recognize the potential for growth through enhanced trade cooperation.

The visiting delegation commended President Yoweri Museveni for his role in fostering a robust working relationship between Uganda and the DRC. They acknowledged his efforts in areas such as security, infrastructure development including roads and electricity, economic progress, and diplomacy.

The MPs also expressed their desire for the establishment of consulates in Bunia and Arua, which would facilitate and boost trade activities between the two nations.

Several other ministers and technocrats attended the meeting reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to enhance bilateral relations and collaboration across various sectors.
