Security Operatives in Koboko Arrest Two Robbery Suspects, Recover Two Rifles

The territorial police of Koboko, along with other Sister Forces, have apprehended two suspected robbers and seized two rifles in a successful intelligence-led operation. The suspects are believed to be members of a criminal gang that has been terrorizing the West Division of Koboko municipality and the neighbouring MIDIA Subcounty with armed robberies.

The suspects have been identified as Sunday Moses, a 35-year-old Congolese national and Abu Ramza, 20-year-old a Ugandan. They were arrested on 24/04/2024 at about 1130 hrs, following a thorough joint interrogation by the intelligence and Criminal Investigations team.

After revealing the whereabouts of the two rifles that they had been using in their criminal operations, the suspects led a joint team of police, UPDF, and intelligence agencies to Ayimini village, Degiba Parish, Midia Subcounty, Koboko district, where the two rifles were recovered, wrapped in a blue empty sack and placed beneath some dry grass in Yerezaku valley.

The recovered rifles were identified as AK 47 no. 58038020 with one magazine and 11 rounds of live ammunitions and AK 47 no. 38020 with one magazine and 09 rounds of live ammunitions. The source of the rifles is suspected to be from South Sudan, and investigations are ongoing.

During the search of the suspects’ houses, exhibits recovered from Sunday Moses’ house included 02 solar panels, 01 solar battery, 04 ignition keys of suspected robbed motorcycles, and 01 desert Army jungle boot. However, no exhibits were recovered from Abu Ramza’s house.

The suspects are in Police custody while investigations have been instituted vide CRB 261/2023, CRB 262/2023 and CRB 263/2023 of Koboko CPS. Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover more exhibits are underway.

The Police PRO for West Nile Region, SP Angucia Josephine, urged the general public to cooperate with the police and other security agencies by sharing information that could help to remove illegal guns from the hands of wrongdoers. This move is expected to reduce cases of robberies and murders, thus enhancing security in the communities.
