Minister Nandutu held by police for diverting Iron Sheets meant for Karamoja
Detectives at Kira Division Police Station are holding the Minister of State for Karamoja, Hon. Agnes Nandutu.
Hon Nandutu gave herself up to the police in relation to ongoing investigations into the alleged abuse of office and theft of iron sheets meant for Karamoja.
According to CP Polly Namaye the Deputy Spokesperson Uganda Police Force, the Minister voluntarily handed herself over to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Headquarters in Kibuli, where she was assigned detectives to take her statement.
She was later handed over to Kira police. Namaye adds that the police have submitted the file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further guidance and possible sanctioning.
This comes just a day after the Anti-Corruption Court remanded Amos Lugoloobi the State Minister for Finance to Luzira prison over the same matter, while the Minister for Karamoja Kitutu Mary Gorreti is out on bail.
The police commended Hon. Nandutu for voluntarily surrendering herself to the police upon learning of the allegations under investigation, which saved police time and resources.
“We thank Hon. Agnes Nandutu for handing herself over to the Police, upon learning of the allegations under investigation. This action has saved Police time and resources and it is worth emulating when in similar circumstances,” said Namaye.
