68-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide in Busia Following Domestic Dispute
Police in Busia District are investigating a case of suicide by hanging involving a 68-year-old man who was found dead in his house on Thursday morning, October 16, 2025, in Ajoket ‘A’ Village, Tiira Town Council.
The deceased has been identified as Patrick Nyongesa, a peasant and resident of the same village. According to IP Mugwe J. Moses, the PRO Bukedi South Region, the incident was reported by AIP Mojong Dhriseseom, a police officer attached to Tiira Police Station and resident of Tiira Police Barracks.
Preliminary findings indicate that Nyongesa had been facing ongoing domestic problems with his wife, Kudu Anna. Reports suggest that he had previously attempted to take his own life and even tried to set himself on fire, accusing his wife of infidelity.
On the night of October 15, 2025, the couple reportedly quarrelled until morning. The following day, their son, Juma Joseph, tried to mediate between them. Before the wife went to the garden, the deceased took the goats out for grazing. Later that morning, at about 8:00 a.m., Nyongesa was found hanging in his house.
The scene was visited by officers from Tiira Police Station, who were later joined by a team from Busia Police Station, including the Homicide and Scene of Crime (SOCO) teams. The body was found hanging from an electric wire, with the toes touching the ground. The deceased was dressed in a light blue shirt, black trousers, and black shoes.
Mugwe says the police documented the scene, recorded statements from relatives, and conveyed the body to Masafu Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
