60-Year-Old VHT Officer Brutally Murdered in Bukwo

Police in Bukwo District are searching for unknown assailants who attacked, shot, and cut a man in his home.

The deceased has been identified as Cherop Charles, a 60-year-old Village Health Team (VHT) officer and resident of Kapkwomolon Village, Chemuron Parish, Chepkwasta Sub County in Bukwo District.

According to Fredmark Chesang, the police PRO for Sipi Region, the incident allegedly occurred on January 19, 2025, at around 8:30 PM. Two unidentified assailants, armed with a gun and a panga, reportedly attacked and shot Cherop before fatally cutting him.

Chesang confirmed that police visited the crime scene and documented it. The deceased’s body has been taken to Bukwo General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

No arrests have been made yet, and investigations are ongoing. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the deceased was suspected of practicing witchcraft in the area.
