3 dead, 6 injured in Gulu-Nimule Highway accident
Three people are dead following an accident that happened on Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at about 12:05 am at Odongdack village along the Gulu-Nimule highway in Amuru District
The accident involved two motor vehicles: a white Fuso fighter Reg. No. UAP 290Z and a silver grey Toyota Wish Reg. No. UBJ 434M.
ASP Ongom David Mudong the PRO ASWA West Region identified the deceased as Elyau Michael, a 40-year-old driver of the Fuso, Onencan Patrick, a 30-year-old driver of the Toyota Wish and an unidentified boy of about 13 years of South Sudanese descent.
The victims who sustained injuries include an unidentified adult female, a South Sudanese National, Sandra Alwedo, a 20-year-old woman from Lira City, Eranya Ben, a male adult from Bibia in Amuru District, Acio Molly, a 45-year-old woman from Lira City, Akello Mariam, a 30-year-old woman from Lira City and Atimango Fiona, a 25-year-old woman from Lira City.
Preliminary reports indicate that on August 28th, 2023, at around 12:05 am, the driver of the Toyota Wish, struck a cow at Odongdack village, causing him to lose control, resulting in a collision with Motor the Fuso fighter, coming from the opposite direction (Gulu side).
The Amuru territorial traffic police responded to the scene and evacuated the injured persons to Lacor Hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were transported to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Mudong says that the cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving by the driver of the Toyota Wish.
