255 Suspects Arrested in Joint Crime Crackdown Across Wakiso and Kampala

A total of 255 suspects have been arrested in a series of coordinated operations conducted by a joint taskforce on 16th February 2026 across various parts of Wakiso District and Kampala. The operations were aimed at combating crime and enhancing public safety.

The targeted areas included Nansana West Ward, Kyebando, and Gganda in Wakiso Sub-county and Nansana Municipality; Kitukutwe Zone, Kiwologoma, and Namugongo Nsawo Zone in Kira Municipality; Kyanja under the Kira Road Policing Area; and selected black spots within Kampala’s Central Business District.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the identified locations had reportedly become gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities that have been affecting residents and members of the public.

As a result of the operations, 65 suspects were arrested in Nansana and surrounding areas, 38 in Kira Municipality, 16 in Kyanja, and 136 (134 males and 2 females) in the Central Business District.

All suspects were screened and charged with offences related to possession of suspected narcotic substances and other related crimes. They are currently detained at their respective police stations pending further processing and court appearance.

Exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances, were recovered during the operations.

Police described the operations as successful, noting that they form part of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements, dismantle crime-prone gathering points, and ensure the continued safety and security of the public.

ASP Owoyesigyire assured the public that similar operations will continue to maintain law and order and provide a peaceful environment for all citizens.
