22-year-old mother in trouble for strangling her new baby boy to death

Detectives at Kira Road Police station have arrested a 22-year-old mother for strangling her newborn baby to death.

It is reported that Nanungi Joyce, 22, gave birth to a healthy baby boy at the Komamboga Health Centre and was later discharged with her child on 3rd February 2023.

However, in a statement she recorded with police on 8th February, Nanungi confessed that she strangled the child and disposed of the body in a nearby pit latrine.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire Deputy PRO KMP says that the crime scene was identified and the Fire Prevention and Rescue team is working to retrieve the body of the child.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
