Nineteen people have died and 13 others were critically injured in a fatal road accident that occurred on the night of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at around 11:00 PM in Kigorobya along the Hoima–Bulisa Road.
According to SP Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the crash involved a Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBB 639W, which was transporting market vendors from Wanseko-Buliisa Market.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck failed to ascend a slope at Kigorobya, rolled backward, and overturned. Nineteen people died on the spot, while 13 others sustained injuries of varying severity.
The injured victims were rushed to various health facilities for emergency treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Hoima City Mortuary for postmortem examinations. Investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased, and we wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” said SP Kananura.
He urged truck drivers and transporters to avoid carrying passengers in or on the back of trucks, emphasizing that such vehicles are not designed for human transportation. He also called for regular vehicle maintenance and mechanical inspections, and advised drivers to exercise caution, particularly on hilly or hazardous road sections, to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
