16-year-old girl arrested for infanticide

Police in Rubanda have arrested a 16-year-old girl for alleged infanticide.

the suspect whose identity has been concealed by the Editor because she is a minor committed the crime on 20/03/2023 at around 08:00hrs at Nyamiyaga village Igomanda parish Hamurwa sub county Rubanda district.

According to ASP Maate Elly the PRO Kigezi, it is alleged that the girl was impregnated by Arinda Boaz a village mate and left her with no help. 

On 20/03/23 at around 0800hrs, she contracted labour pains and informed her father Katurebe Herbert, who rushed her to the church for prayers instead of the hospital. With too much pain, she went into the pit latrine, squatted and pushed the baby/ delivered into the pit latrine.

Police were alerted by the chairperson of the local council two Igomanda Justus Ensiteriyitu. Officers visited the scene and the body was removed from the pit latrine with the help of the locals.

A postmortem was done and the body taken by the relatives for burial the girl was briefly held for questioning and taken to Hamurwa health centre IV for medical care/examination as efforts to get the man who impregnated her arrested are being made so that is charged with defilement.
