Kampala Metropolitan North Police Commanders in trouble over Komamboga deadly Explosion

Police commanders in Komamboga area have been faulted for laxity in enforcement of night curfew time restrictions which led to a terror attack on a pork joint that left one person dead.

The explosion, which has been confirmed to be a domestic terror attack occurred on Saturday night at Georon, a small eatery next to the famous Digida Pork joint in Komamboga suburb, Kawempe Division in Kampala District.

One person identified as Emily Nyineneza, a waiter at the facility succumbed to the injuries, while three other people were critically injured.

Now, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, senior commissioner of Police Stephen Tanui has blamed the area Police officers for being reluctant in enforcing curfew guidelines issued by President Museveni.

He said this at a security meeting with residents, and local leaders held at Komamboga playground, a few meters from the scene of crime on Sunday.

He also vowed to arrest all curfew violators in Kampala areas but also faulted area police officers and their commanders for looking on when people continuously violated curfew regulations.

“The directives are very clear; no one should be in the bar or any place past 7:00 pm. But because of reluctant officers, these places were open. Now they will start giving excuses on this and that. But this unwillingness is very unacceptable in police,” he noted.

He, however, promised local leaders that there will be intensified operations that will fish out those people who still violate curfew regulations.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that some police commanders in Kampala Metropolitan North have been arrested in relation to the blast in Komamboga. However, Fred Enanga the Police spokesperson, could neither confirm nor deny the reports.
