Two children are fighting for their lives following a fire outbreak that happened on the 11th October 2021 at Nalumunye at the home of January Bamanzi.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy PRO Kampala metropolitan police, it has been established that the fire started from the ceiling of the house and was also put out by locals in the area.
“A statement from the maid, who had been left home with the children, was recorded by our officers. The officers have gone back to the scene for more investigations. However, preliminary investigations indicate it could have been a short circuit since the fire is alleged to have started from the ceiling” Owoyesigyire noted.
He added that officers have also taken note that the mother to the children while talking with the media alleged that the people behind the fire were from of State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
“We have not found any evidence that the fire was caused by arsonists.
If the victim has any information to that effect, she should provide that to police. We would like to also categorically state that it’s true our officers working with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit investigated a case of concealment of a title, which was forwarded to the office of the Directorate for Public Prosecutions, and the case file was sanctioned against January Bamanzi” Owoyesigyire noted.
He was later arraigned in court and remanded. The PRO adds that the two issues of the fire and the land case are unrelated and the lady’s remarks are unjustified.
“Our commitment to having conclusive investigations in both incidents remains unhindered.”
