Health Ministry Condemns attacks on its officials following Monday coffin incident in Makerere

Ministry of Health has condemned what it termed as continued   malicious attacks on its officials by groups of persons who have been politically organized with an intent to defame.

The development follows a move by some unidentified persons who, while riding on a motorcycle, dumped an empty coffin in the middle of the road, around Makerere, demanding resignation of the Ministry’s PS, Dr. Diana Atwine.

Now, Emmanuel Ainebyoona the ministry’s PRO, despite availability of facts and accountability, they have also noted that these groups are not interested in the available facts through known accountability channels.

He appealed to security and enforcement agencies to interest themselves and investigate the groups behind the smear campaign targeting individuals within the Ministry.

“The Ministry of Health works as a team and that is why there are various decision-making committees such as the Senior Management Committee, Top Management, Strategic Committee, Scientific Advisory Committee, the Vaccine Advisory Committee and National Taskforce” he explained.

Anebyoona added that the Ministry of Health will not be derailed or distracted, but rather remains committed to providing care and saving lives during this second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, a group of Human Rights activists gave the PS a 24-hour ultimatum to resign her job, or they would organize protests. Police insist they know the people who dumped the coffin and will ensure to arrest them.
