Oulanya applauds former Speaker Kadaga, pledges to respect his Deputy Anita Among

Omoro county member of Parliament, Hon. Jacob Oulanya and Bukedea Woman Member of Parliament Anita Among have on Monday been elected and sworn in as Speaker and Deputy speaker of the 11th Parliament respectively.

Oulanya was announced winner by the Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo after garnering 310 votes against his rival and former boss Rebecca Kadaga’s 197 and Ssemujju Nganda’s 15 votes.

After swearing in, Oulanya immediately took over business and led the house through the voting process for Deputy speakership, a race that attracted three candidates; NRM’s Anita Among, Independent Candidate and FDC’s founding member Yusuf Nsibambi, the MP-elect for Mawokota South.

Among trounced the two men with 415 votes. Nsibambi came second with 35 votes, while Nsereko came last with 24 votes.

Former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga had earlier asked to be allowed to make a speech, but the Chief Justice turned her prayer down. However, when the new Speaker Oulanya decided to invite her to address the house, she had left.

Oulanya applauded Kadaga for the job well done.

“I thank madam Kadaga for the leadership she provided to parliament, the country and internationally when she represented Uganda in the IPU and other organizations the government of Uganda subscribes to. I want to thank her so much, we pledge to pick from where she left” Oulanya said.

He pledged to work with his Deputy Among respectfully and noted that his office is open for all. He promised not to hold grudges with anyone that has not supported him.

Oulanya said they are going to focus on social-economic transformation as noted by the President. according to President Museveni, this five year term will focus on Social economic transformation.
