Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances under which a 70-year-old man was found murdered over the weekend.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional police spokesperson identified the deceased as John Kasikano a resident of Kagorogoro cell Kabwoma parish Nyakagyeme s/c Rukungiri district.
According to Maate, the murder was reported by Julius Kashumbusha the chair person LC1 Kagorogoro cell on Sunday morning who found Kasikano dead at around 7:00am when he he had gone to hear a case between the deceased and his brother Kamagara Benson.
Kashumbusha was with his defense secretary one Binsinguza Benoni when they found the deceased.
The police mouthpiece says the chairman went to Kamagara’s home and sent his defense Secretary to call the deceased, but when he reached his home and called, there was no response. He went to his son Karenzi Laban to help him and wake his father up.
“Karenzi Laban came and called his father to wake up but in vein, he pushed the door open because it was not locked, entered inside and found his father dead lying on the bed with the legs on the floor” Maate says.
They immediately informed the chairperson who in turn reported the matter to police. Police visited the scene and the deceased’s body was taken to Rwakabengo health centre 3 mortuary pending post-mortem, while inquiries ongoing.
